Welcome, good reader-person! I have reserved this portion of my website (artistchristopher.com) for writings and scribblings and general observations in text. It isn't a blog, as such. With a blog, there must be a regular schedule of entries (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) And for me, I have found it to be too much of an interruption of my working process to try to be a journalist about my own work at the same time.
Too many hats, if you will.
So if you desire regular postings or you'll abandon the site, then I am sorry to say that I must disappoint.
But if you'd like a space to view my explorations and visual quests even more in-depth, than this is the place for that. On this part of my site I'll discuss my process, things that inspire me as an artist, and concepts that are still in development. I may discuss ideas that will never come to fruition. Essentially, it will be the digital version of the avalanche of yellow post-it notes I have scattered throughout my studio.
And, knowing me, I will likely wander and ramble and lose my train of thought. It's just... a thing I often do.
So, there you have it. I've never been very comfortable with the social media aspect of life, but writing is a different matter. For every topic I tackle in paint, there are numerous notes and philosophical fumblings and scramblings ahead of time. I can't speak for other artists--but for me, writing is an essential part of the painting process.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Christopher Mangum has been an exhibiting fine artist and illustrator since 2000. His primary focus is on the surreal aspects of our modern lives, mixed with a healthy dose of pulp illustration sensibility and a dash of impressionist painting technique.
