"Smoke and Questions", a painting inspired by Alice in Wonderland, shows our protagonist confronting the mysterious and infuriating oracle of the Caterpillar. It is a decision point in her story, where she must take in information from a source who does not have her best interests at heart, and move forward with it. This is often the case in our world. Our information is biased, incomplete, and sometimes arranged specifically with the intent of opposing our interests. And yet we must carry on, and make the best decisions we can. Some choose to trust the oracles (the drug, the friend, the guru, the boss, the politician, the clergyman, the news media), and others muddle through their own way. But there is always a choice to be made.
